Adventures in America

Daryan, Jay and I were inspired by the beautiful sunny day on Friday to throw caution to the wind and take ourselves on an excursion to the states (i felt like i was 21 again!). We went to our homes, grabbed our passports and other personal effects and we were on our way to the Peace Arch border crossing. An hour and a bit later and we were in Bellingham. The adventure started with a stroll around the town, shopping, and basking in the sunlight.

the day took a slightly 'after-school-special' tone when we drove down to Bellingham Bay to get out and explore the shoreline. we had only been there a few moments when some hippy in a van told us to 'be careful what we touch' on the shoreline because the factory ajacent the bay had semi-recently been caught for dumping mercury in the ocean. 'now,' he went on to tell us with his motor revved, 'every whale that makes its way into the bay ends up dead from mercury poisoning on the shoreline.' yikes... while his quote that '29 000 tons' of mercury ended up in the bay seemed comical and slightly exagerrated, i looked it up online and he was right! click on the following link to read up on this disaster... bellingham bay mercury disaster
needless to say, that cautionary chat made me give my bubble glass hunting idea a second thought. then we moved on to the burbs for some shopping... see some of my fav purchases below -

Isn't this the most beautiful purse you ever saw?! We found it at a vintage-style shoe and accessory store in downtown Bellingham. I just had to own in for my fancy + funky + vintage-style purse collection (i now have 4!)

Here's a funky coconut husk welcome mat i bought at TARGET - what a fun thing to put out after the spring cleaning :)
