'tis the season in vancouver of soft pink and white candy-cotton-like trees - the cherry trees are blossoming! how fitting that i'm currently reading MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA, and it's at the point where Chiyo hears about the Cherry Blossom viewings (hanami). has anyone else read this book?. once i finish the book, i'm going to rent the movie :).
here's a picture of our street lined with these striking, yaezahura-variety spring-blooming trees; although they've been fragrant and full (mankai) for about a week, they are beginning to shed. now it's another kind of beauty - the soft shower of cherry blossom petals. unfortunately, the rains come tonight and will destroy the blooms... and the carpet of petals on our front lawn will wash away into the gutters.
