My Mom came last week to Vancouver for a spring-time visit! And thanks to my slacker job, I was able to take the week off to have a vacation as well. I got to play tour guide and explore the city with my Mom. It's kind of neat to get to play tour guide, because it encourages you to re-experience the city - a city that I had started to take for granted. And, man, did we ever get to experience lots this week. We ate at many yummy restuarants (including a breakfast date with Jay at the Naam!). We also hung on the Drive, Main street, Point Grey, Kitsilano, and at Granville Island. While at Granville Island, we took a small ferry boat around False Creek to see the sights from the water. We walked through Van Dusen Gardens on Thursday; we sat on the beach in the West End that evening. And we went to the USA for outlet mall shopping on Friday. We even found time to bust out the craft supplies and make a log cabin pillow for my Mom.
(Explore the series of links above for some info about locations in Vancouver).
Below are some select pics of our adventures:

Mom and I enjoying lemon tarts on the Drive at the yummy italian bakery. The picture above left even includes some mountains peeking through!

Here we are at Van Dusen Gardens - a 55 acre garden right in the middle of Vancouver. There were many unique trees and the azaleas and rhododendrons were the notable flowers in bloom. But, this patch of forget-me-nots (above left) were also in their glory. We apparently preceded the 'laburnum walk' by three weeks. Late May features garden paths with a canopy of yellow laburnum blooms. We also saw ducks, geese, huge fish, sunning turtles, and even a heron!

Daryan, Mom, and I (taking the photo) took night trip to English Bay to listen to the waves on the shore, and watch the lights of the city over the water in the distance. This evening also marked the christening of my 'good day sunshine' beach quilt! We have warm drinks and sweet treats in hand to keep us warm ;)
